GROW YOUR OWN GARNISH

Apr 3, 2023

As the weather warms up, we’ll soon see an abundance of greenery and springtime growth. With this in mind, it’s the ideal time to plant seeds so that you can add some delicious homegrown garnishes to your cocktail. Unsure where to start and which herbs will elevate your drink? MARTINI is here to help!

But first, let’s give you a brief introduction as to why botanicals are an essential part of MARTINI. In case you didn’t know, the four key hallmarks of making vermouth are wine, alcohol, sugar, and herbs.

“Herbs, or and botanicals, are very important to produce the unique taste of MARTINI.”

Since its origin, botanicals have always been a key component when creating MARTINI.
The secretly guarded blend of dry botanicals are extracted with alcohol and water to make the base, something which our Masters lovingly refer to as “Martinity”. These are the characters that MARTINI connoisseurs can easily identify within the full MARTINI range – from Rosso and Bianco, to Rubino and Bitter Riserva Speciale, and now even in the non-alcoholic Floreale and Vibrante.

So we spend time foraging in nature’s garden for these precious botanical essences. Decades-long links with our local territory in Italy’s Pancalieri region allow us to know every single detail of the aromatic characters of our botanicals, particularly artemisia which is a key ingredient when it comes to classifying what makes a vermouth. All masterfully cultivated and harvested by our trusted farmers, the real custodians of the botanical quality.

Botanicals can be used to elevate your drink even further, so if you want to add more depth try experimenting with your garnishes. And if you’re feeling green-fingered, spring is the best time to sow some seeds. Here are our top three suggestions of what to grow at home, and cocktails to use them in.

BASIL

Known as an Italian staple when it comes to cooking, this delightfully aromatic herb balances sweet and savoury. It’s easy to grow in pots on the windowsill which is handy when adding atop your pizza, but we’d suggest using it as a garnish for a MARTINI Passione.
